Onancock Baptist Church

Where Should I Park?

Our original church facility is located on Market Street as you make your way into town.  The white building with distinct red doors and a functioning bell tower is unmistakable and an Historic fixture in town.  However, we outgrew that facility years ago and the building on Market Street is now used as our Chapel and Fellowship Hall for smaller events throughout the year.  The building immediately next to the Chapel on Market Street is our Activities building where our Youth meet weekly and various other ministries are housed.  However, the majority of our events and worship services are held in our Family Life Center at the rear of the property.  You can access this building by turning onto North Street from Market Street and making the first right onto Crockett Avenue immediately in front of the DMV building.  This street will take you to the front of the Family Life Center where you can drop off and proceed to find parking.

Being in town presents a challenge when it comes to parking.  Don't worry though, we have plenty of parking in the vicinity of the church.  The majority of our parking is found in the lot attached to the activities building right on Market Street.  There is also a small lot in front of and next to the family life center.  Many people park in the DMV parking lot immediately adjacent to the Family Life Center and should these be full there is a town lot and theater parking lot within walking distance of the church.  Reference the map below for a location of these lots.

What Should I Wear?

We focus on the heart more than the outward appearance.  When you come to one of our weekend gatherings, you will find people dressed in a wide variety of styles.  You'll see folks dressed in ties and skirts sitting next to people in shorts and tank tops.  There's no formal dress code - no need to dress to impress.  Feel free to wear the clothes you feel appropriate for a worship service.

What About Kids?

We are blessed to have a robust kids ministry here at Onancock Baptist Church.  On Sunday mornings we have a nursery for birth through 3 years old and we also have a Children's Church for ages 4 through 7 that is dismissed during the worship service.  If you have a nursery aged child, you can make your way to the nursery hall by following the signs or by asking a greet who will be more than happy to escort you to the nursery area.  There the nursery volunteer will help you check-in and give you a pager to take with you in case they need to contact you during the service.  If your kids want to go to Children's Church just make your way to the Worship Center and sit as a family.  During the service, we will dismiss the kids to Children's Church.

We take our Children's Ministry very seriously and prioritize the protection and safety of your children while they are in our care.  Every Children's volunteer must undergo a background check and our check-ins and safety protocols are in place to keep your child safe during the service.  As always, if you would rather worship together as a family, no matter the age of the child, feel free to stay together as a family in the service.  We want you to be comfortable and worship in whatever way you feel led.

What are services Like?

Our services are contemporary times of worship, especially in relation to many of the churches on the shore.  We sing modern worship music, but we also value the hymns many of us grew up with and sing them in a contemporary way.  We have been blessed with very talented musicians at Onancock Baptist Church and love to sing.  In fact, the first part of our service is set aside for music and prayer while the latter part of the service focuses on preaching the Word and a time for response.  The gospel is our focus in all of our worship services and we value the preaching of the Word of God above all else.

As you make your way into the Family Life Center, you will be greeted by a volunteer.  If this is your first time, let them know and they will escort you to the Welcome Center in front of the Worship Center where you can fill out a connect card and we would love to give you a gift for worshiping with us.  You can then make your way into our Worship Center which serves as a multi-purpose room.  Because of that, there are no pews in the room, however, there are a lot of comfortable chairs and plenty of aisle space to get around the room.  Our stage is done in a contemporary way, but respectfully.  We don't have strobing lights nor do our lights flash and move around.  We do have contemporary lighting and projectors and value the use of technology to enhance the worship service.  If you visit with us know that we will never point you out or make you feel uncomfortable.  We respect your right to peacefully and comfortably worship as you desire.  However, know that our church family is friendly and will seek to make you feel welcome.
